KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • When it comes to a career, pay attention to what interests you, and be specific. Mindy knew she loved story telling and creativity but she figured out she wasn't the creator. She was the one to foster the creative work. That discovery led her to work in the Fashion industry which in turn helped Nike become an apparel giant.

  • Don't simply say "no" to a business proposition. Be creative. Figure out what your asset is that people want.

  • Expand the view you have of your job. For example, even as a salesperson, Mindy never sold anything. She met people's needs. That shift can be a game changer.

  • Two characteristics can mean the difference between success and defeat. One is resilience, that ability to bounce back. The other is the ability to look forward.

  • Be intentional about your legacy. Give a lot of thought to what it is you want to do. Make sure it's both interesting and impactful.

  • Legacy isn't a career or profession or job. Legacy is every life you've ever touched.

  • At any point in your life, be it personal or business, you have the power to be impactful. Your platform may change but your impact doesn't.

  • Whether you're a stay-at-home-mom or a mom who has a professional career, let go of mom guilt. The things that traumatize us and lead us to believe we're failures as moms, our kids don't even remember.

  • The greatest gift Mindy's mom gave her was the belief she could do anything. There was no ceiling, no limit to what she could accomplish. Support doesn't have to be financial and in Mindy's case it wasn't. It was emotional support but nonetheless powerful.

  • Mindy's an optimist but it goes beyond that. It's the belief that everything happens for a reason, both good and bad. Knowing things are meant to be one way or another guides her life.

  • When it comes to weight loss, things changed when Mindy stopped focusing on losing more weight. It's about being aware of what and why you're eating, holding yourself accountable with tracking and staying consistent.
