PODCAST: Started From The Bottom
We're gearing up to attend a party for Toronto's Most Influential People which has us (mostly just Nat) thinking about where we stand in life on a scale from one to ten and subsequently sharing our average rankings with all things considered. We also get into an intense conversation about parenting teens and tweens and let you in on the new support group we're building for moms who are struggling to navigate this stage of parenting. And last but not least, we discuss what a f*cking rodeo it is to run a business as a woman when you have to deal with your husband's unsolicited advice. It's a major sore spot in both of our relationships, so we need to vent to each other and to you guys about it.
As a #FabFitFunPartner, we're able to bring you guys the thing that we love and that y'all will love (or already love), too. The Winter Box is now available and we are so pumped about it! For those who may not know, FabFitFun is a seasonal subscription box that offers full size beauty, fashion, home, fitness and wellness products (valued at over $200+) for only $49.99!! You can customize your box and get special add-ons, and you can also become a part of an amazing community that is all about supporting women. Visit fabfitfun.com and use the promo code MOMTRUTHS to get $10 off your first box!
TOP QUOTES FROM THIS PODCAST:
BUSINESS TAKEAWAYS
We're exiting something and entering into something else because we are feeling redundant in touring in the traditional way and we want to re-create it. We like a fresh start, so this is a natural progression for us.
In business, if a method works, use it. But if you have an idea that no one else is doing, try it out, because you may end up being a leader in the space.
When your business is idea-driven and content-driven based on who you are as a person, it's very hard to treat it like a business.
#MOMTRUTH MOMENTS
Motherhood feels like it's so much right now with all the scheduling, extracurricular programs, and the big decisions that will ultimately change the course of our kids' lives. I never realized how much of an impact you have as a parent and how many difficult decisions you’re faced with making in order to get your children to a certain place in life. You want to give them some control over those decisions, but at the same time you can't because you know better than them…or at least you think you know better than them.
In parenting, there comes a time when you no longer have any influence on your kids. All of a sudden, one day, they walk out the door and you hope that you raised them right and that you provided them with enough knowledge to make the right decisions on their own. You question whether or not you taught them everything you wanted to teach them, and even if you feel like you did, you wonder if they were actually listening to you. When they begin to keep things from you and not openly tell you everything, that’s when they’ve started thinking outside of you. They have this newfound ability to make their own choices and you can't control it, you can't make it better and you can't fix it when things go wrong.
As a parent, you do the best that you can every single day, so you can't turn back and say you wish you had done something differently because you were doing the best you could at that time.
