In this week's episode, we talk all about parenting, new business ideas, the risk involved with being an entrepreneur, and the pressure to earn an income (and partners who question said income). It's jam packed full of stories about our personal experiences, both past and present, in motherhood and in business. Plus, we share what's next for us! Ps. If you get to the end of this episode, make sure your kids aren't listening 🙉

TOP QUOTES FROM THIS PODCAST:

BUSINESS TAKEAWAYS

  • We recently found out that we've been nominated for an iHeart Radio Podcast Award and we can't even believe it. We saw all these people recording podcasts in studios and theatres, surrounded by mics, headphones, computers and switcher-boards, which we didn’t have, but we were ready to start so we decided to just use our iPhone. From sitting in the car with an iPhone to being nominated for a best podcast in our category, that's f*cking crazy. The moral of the story is to JUST START - don’t wait for everything to be perfect, because you’ll be waiting forever…

  • The income we contributed to the family used to always be extra, but now it feels like a necessity and that feels scary and uncomfortable. There are consequences to our business now, whereas before, it was all fun and games. So we have to figure out ways to turn our passions into money in order to maintain an income to support ourselves, our families and our team. We don't work for money, we work because we love what we do. We're not trying to make money off of others, but we have certain people behind us telling us we can't do what we do unless we're bringing in some sort of income. So, we have to figure out how to make money in order to continue doing what we love.

  • We are responsible for paying ourselves and a lot of other people, and that's what makes us feel so uneasy. Nothing about our business is consistent and nothing is guaranteed. Everything could stop tomorrow or everything could be so much bigger tomorrow, but it's never consistent. All of the people on our team who make a salary are not getting paid based on what we earn, so they don't have to worry about it, the pressure is on us. If you're working for an entrepreneur and you know how much money they make, you have to understand that it’s all tied to the risk involved. So even though you may feel like you're working harder than your boss, you don't get access to the money being brought in by the company because they're the ones with the idea and the risk. It's like when you make an investment - the more you risk, the more you get back out of it.

  • We have a new idea we just launched and we're obsessed with it! Yet again, we created something based off a need we had, and that's what it means to follow your instincts and know that if you need it, a lot of other people need it too. It’s a special group for moms of tweens & teens where we can all go to ask questions and seek support (anonymously) as we navigate this new and difficult stage of parenting. It's a tricky role and there aren't a lot of resources out there, so we're going to turn to experts for advice inside the forum. Anyone can join, but since it's all anonymous, it's a secure, safe space for moms to share their thoughts, concerns and experiences. We're turning what we need into something that can also help other people, but on a business side, this could be a great model for us to make a passive income on a consistent basis. We're putting our time and energy into making this platform the best it can be, and our team is working behind-the-scenes on it as well, so we have to make money off of it. But at the same time, it's helping other people, so we feel good about it.

#MOMTRUTH MOMENTS

  • Uncomfortable feelings aren't bad. Comfortable feelings are worse than uncomfortable feelings. If your kid's having a rough go, they're probably going to be stronger in life.

INSPIRATIONAL TAKEAWAYS

  • We're so excited to make our new dreams come to life.

  • That's life - you win some, you lose some but hopefully you win more. We'll be fine though. We always figure it out.
