PODCAST: This Middle-Age Sh*t Is Sh*t

We're just trying to figure out our lives over here... So naturally our conversation is focused on us wanting some independence, and trying to make this new reality work, and planning for a Friday night patio hop, and managing kids' learning differences AND vision boarding. We've got a lot on the go right now ha! Nat's ready to escape the world, whereas Cat is feeling a little more optimistic and positive. Which side of the spectrum are you on?

TOP TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS PODCAST:

  • You're not a bad wife for wanting time alone. Wanting time to yourself doesn't mean that you're unhappy in your marriage. Let's debunk that myth right now. Love and independence don't even need to be in the same equation.

  • If we're going to make this new reality work, we've got to do something about it.

  • What we’re finding during COVID is that we don't have a lot to do but we don't have any time on our hands...

  • If you build it, it will come. We believe that vision boarding is a great way to manifest your future. You can vision board on Pinterest or in your own mind. If you stop dreaming, nothing will happen. So figure out what you want and start putting your wishes and dreams out into the universe and make them happen.

  • A lot of parents feel like they should keep their child's learning differences a secret, but we think that the conversation around learning differences needs to be normalized so that parents won't be afraid to put their kids in a normal situation even though they learn abnormally. If we can normalize the fact that people learning differently is probably more the norm than people who don't, the education system might stop looking at it as a problem and instead figure out ways these children can get what they need in their alternative way.

  • We love teachers, but they aren't always right. We often take their advice about what our child is, but that’s just their perspective and their observation of our child in that environment, so we shouldn’t be afraid to push back in a respectful way.

  • It's hard to think about yourself as a woman and a mother when you're so concerned about your kids - it's a natural thing.

  • The transition for our kids going back to the structure and routine of school will be a massive slap in the face for them, because they're so used to freedom and endless time of fun and of being children.

  • For the first few weeks back to school, teachers are going to have to go back to the basics. the anxiety is going to be through the roof for most kids and five days of school each week is going to feel like an eternity. Plus all new COVID rules on top of that…
